TEETH
Teeth is an autobiographical performance about multiple early losses, pointedly questioning the oppressive cultural story that women's value is in their fertility; as well as challenging the notion of the uterus as a nourishing entity. It is designed to be frank and honest, and spread awareness of how common an experience early loss is, often borne in sanctioned silence for the comfort of others.
Teeth is an excerpt from The Monstrous Feminine, although it can and has been performed independently outside of the context of the entire show.
Teeth was first devised during a three week artist residency at Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2021. It uses an enormous red chiffon skirt, measuring 45' x 45', and weighing 40 pounds. It was fabricated by the artist and her husband Shaun, in their home in South Carolina.
